The Power of Quotes

I have always admired the mentoring power of quotes, and being an avid reader myself, I seem to always be surrounded and immersed in an endless ocean of ''zipped'' wisdom.

Having consumed vast quantities of educational material, of all kinds, through the years, I have come to believe though, that almost quotes, need to be taken - when apllied  - with a grain of salt.

While their distilled wisdom seems to be, in most cases, almost axiomatic and beyond arguing, the application of their suggestion, in each individual case and event of life, needs to be evaluated case-by-case.

Let me give you an example:

In the Greek culture and tradition, there are three different quotes, on the issue of ''Doing Things Quickly''.

Although not directly translatable in English, the first one states: ''Going quickly is graceful''.

The second one declares: ''He who is in a rush, will trip (and fall)''.

The third advises: ''Go fast, by acting slow''.

Now...one might argue that all three contradict each other and also that this is an isolated case.

Also, that in most other cases, different quotes on the same theme, would most probably agree with one another.

Regardless of the way one sees things, my point is the same: Each and every quote, however valuable, needs to be ''judged'' with a case-by-case mentality in mind, and applied if/when ''approved'' but not followed blindly.

Humanity may have compressed its wisdom in bite sized, fortune cookie format, sentences, but its is always up to our own individual critical thinking, to decide what is applicable, when and why.\

Or - maybe - why not.
